ABOUT THE FANGIRL
What was the first anime you watched? Did you watch other Japanese shows?
I can't remember. It was so long ago. As as child I'd watched a lot though at the time I didn't know that they were called anime. Let's see: I watched Voltes V, Voltron, Astroboy... The one that I really, really liked and got me hooked into collecting was Sailor Moon. Other Japanese shows I used to watch were Bioman, Maskman, Ultraman, Masked Rider Black, Shaider and Annie, Machine Man...
When did you start collecting? Do you still collect?
I started collecting Sailor Moon merchandise in 1995 when it became a hit here in North America. As you can see, my collection has grown leaps and bounds. It's not limited to SM goodies too. I'm trying to control the fangirl within though because... Ehehehe.
Do you collect anything in particular?
For a time, I was only into getting SM goodies: dolls, plushies, rp toys, paperstuff, you name it. I'm not really into collecting the cds since mp3s can be found online. I have the dvds though. Go figure. I basically collect anything that catches my fancy. That is why there's a lot of random stuff (eg: SM chopping board, camera, fuku, etcetera) in my collection.
Is there anything in particular you want to add to your collection?
I want all the Sailor Moon (the character), Chibimoon, and Amazones Quartet dolls, roleplaying toys, and R2 dvds that I don't have yet. I also want art books 5, Materials, and Infinity. Those are at the top of my wishlist.
Which do you prefer: manga or anime?
I prefer the anime. It's more engaging. This is why my
manga/graphic novel collection is small.
Which do you prefer: dolls or figurines?
I like 'em both. I like dolls because I can dress 'em up, brush their silky hair... As for figures, I've only recently started collecting them so I don't have a lot yet.
What do you think about dubbed anime in particular Sailor Moon?
I don't understand why a lot of people were/are complaining about it. It wasn't THAT bad. Besides, it introduced a lot of people to anime in general... If anything, we must be grateful to it. Yeesh.
What do you think about bootlegs?
I
suppose they're okay because not all of us have access to - and money to get - the real stuff.
Do you actually play with your toys?
Well, if they've already been removed from their boxes or they come to me without their boxes, I sort of play with them. For instance, I have loose dolls whose clothes I change whenever I feel like it.
