There are many people out there who hate Usagi -- that they'd even waste time and webspace to let everyone know -- mostly because they think she was way too stupid, klutzy, and slutty. I can understand Usagi had her bad moments, but come on... I think the reason why the anime series introduced her as someone who was slow in academics and lacking grace was because as the show progressed, we got to see her become mature and lady-like. Besides, who would believe that someone uncoordinated and simple-minded like her was a superheroine? I tell you, it was a great disguise! So she wasn't a genius like Ami, a great cook like Makoto, a psychic like Rei, yadda yadda... She did have other great qualities that the other senshi simply didn't have. For one thing, her ability to befriend just about anyone, even those who were considerered social outcasts. After all, if she hadn't gotten to know Ami, Ami would have probably been a loner all her life. (This applied to the other senshi too--well, except maybe Haruka, Michiru, and Setsuna.) I think the anti-Usagi people keep forgetting that. Didn't they pay attention to the ending of the Sailor Moon R movie (y'know, the one where the Inner senshi were crying and reminiscing the good ol' times) or did they not watch that at all?

Speaking of characters who had healthy appetites and a bit airheaded, what about Son Goku from Dragonball? I mean, he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but he had a good heart. Hadn't he saved the Earth countless of times from evil, invading aliens? Didn't he see the good side of Vegeta during the Frieza saga when the others, especially Krillen, were skeptical? Didn't these qualities outweigh his flaws?

As for Usagi having an icky voice... I hope these bashers aren't referring to Mitsuishi Kotono, the same voice actress of Chibichibi, Excel from Excel Saga, Sohma Kagura from Fruits Basket, et cetera? Maybe Usagi's North American voice actress in S and SuperS voice did sound a bit nasal, but so what? It wasn't Usagi's, or rather, Serena's fault, but whoever did the voice casting... And no, I'm not dissing Serena's voice actress at all...

And where do the anti-Usagi people get the idea that Usagi was a slut? Certainly not in the anime and manga. Just because Usagi got all googly-eyed when she saw cute guys didn't mean she was a whore. What about Makoto who was always comparing any bishounen she saw with her sempai or Minako who dated Hawkeye and Tigereye simultaneously? Wasn't there a SuperS episode where they tried to make the guy who ran a daycare their boyfriend? They even got into a competition. I remember Minako accidentally destroying Makoto's teddy bear in the process. Were they sluts too?

Also Usagi remained loyal to Mamoru. I mean, in the anime, she could have been with Demondo or Seiya who absolutely-positively adored and loved her. But nope, she stayed with Mamoru even after he broke her heart. (He had nightmares, remember?) So how was she a slut? And when had Usagi ever performed THE deed? In the anime, all she ever did was kiss and hold hands with Mamoru and/or glomp onto with him. And yes, there were images of her and Mamoru in compromising positions in the manga, but she only did those with Mamoru. If they insist on calling Usagi bad names because of her relationship with Mamoru (you know, with the huge age gap and all), what would that make Naoko Takeuchi? She did, after all, create and drew those manga images. You wanna know what I think? I think Usagi-haters are solely basing their opinion that Usagi was a slut on the Usagi-centred FANfics they have (or should I say, haven't?) read. Can you say waaaaaaaaaay misinformed? Just because Usagi was partnered with almost all of the bishounen in the animanga universe in FANFICTION didn't mean she was a slut. I mean, come on... Where's the logic in that?

I know I'm guilty of turning Usagi into a serious, beautiful, and powerful character in my fics (and turning Relena Peacecraft into a monster, but that's another matter ^^;) But I've always believed that Usagi, slow (academics-wise) and clumsy she might have been, was capable of changing for the better. So she'd failed her school subjects. Who's to say that she wouldn't be able to get decent marks if she put her mind to it? Besides, we all know that Usagi would one day become Neo-Queen Serenity. If you'd seen the second half of the R season, you'd know that Neo-Queen Serenity was a graceful and wise ruler.

So you don't agree with my theory? Then take a look at Ami. Didn't she use to be so absorbed in her books that she didn't even have a social life until she met Usagi? How about Rei and the other senshi? Even Uranus and Neptune who were adamant in working alone learned the meaning of teamwork. And didn't these two change their minds about killing Hotaru because of Usagi? And look, they even decided to be her guardians, too! What I'm saying is that, if the other characters could change in a good way, why couldn't Usagi?

I realize Usagi was not (and would never be) perfect, but then again the other BSSM characters weren't either. I admit, the way I portrayed her in my fics could be construed as major OOC-ness, but she wasn't ditzy and stupid all the time. If you're not convinced, then you should watch the Stars season (if you haven't already), especially the parts where she healed both Neherenia and Galaxia. They were very angst-ridden. Besides, it wasn't like other authors who had Rei, Minako, and/or the other senshi as favourites weren't guilty of making them seem rather perfect in their fanfics too, you know.

As for Usagi being beautiful, why not? I mean if Umino, Ail, Demondo, and Seiya believed she was, why couldn't her fans? Is it so hard to believe that despite Usa's annoying qualities, she was beautiful both inside and out?

What about her hairstyle, you ask? You say it was so stupid and ugly! Well, I happen to think it was cute. But cuteness aside, she had odangoes (those round thingies on top of her head) because she was supposed to represent a rabbit. (Tsukino Usagi = Rabbit of the Moon. Get it?) Chibiusa had a different kind of odangoes. Hers were more pointy. If you're criticizing Usagi because of her odangoes, then you're quite a shallow person, aren't you? Ack! I mean, does that mean you also hate the human form of Luna?!? And Neherenia? She had odangoes on her head too just like Sailor Iron Mouse. And what about Setsuna? Granted she only had one odango on her head, but still... Besides Naoko Takeuchi designed her that way. So you loathe Usagi... Does that mean you also hate the person who created her and the other BSSM characters? *gasps*

So what the heck am I trying to say anyway?

Usagi is only a two-dimensional character who has no idea that 1. she's being portrayed as a perfect person, 2. that she's being paired with different guys (Vegeta, Heero, whoever), and 3. that her friends are turned into traitors. These are things she couldn't possibly control. She's a frigging two-dimensional character, dammit! So why are people blaming/hating her for the many betrayal fics on ffnet? It's like hating Relena Peacecraft a perfectly good character, because she's portrayed as a jealous and vindictive person in the SM/GW section. (Don't say, "The only reason why she's evil in many of the fics in that section is because she stands in between H/U." But that doesn't make sense. Relena would still be standing in between even if a fic centers around Heero/Minako or Heero/Rei or... you get my point. She'd be dealt with just as many Usagi/Heero authors have done: by either 1. turning her into a stalking, crazed, obsessive, evil psycho, 2. having her step aside willingly, 3. barely mentioning her, or 4. not including her in the story at all. (This also applies to Videl Satan in the SM/DBZ section.) But I suppose putting Usagi in Relena's (or Videl's) place and bashing her is more fun to many Usagi-haters. Whatever floats their boat, I suppose...)
